SUMMARY

The Lighting Supervisor/Production Coordinator reports directly to the Director of Production and provides oversight of all lighting activities in support of the mission of The Atlanta Opera. The Lighting Supervisor/Production Coordinator actively manages the lighting operations and provides administrative support for the Production Department.


DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES - Lighting Supervisor

  • Liaison with Lighting Designers and Projections Designers for light plot and specifications, providing necessary information (ground plans, inventory lists, preliminary schedules, etc…)
  • Draft plots as necessary
  • Advise on feasibility of design, in consultation with Technical Director, with respect to venue limitations, inventory, budget, schedule, and other special concern.
  • Plan lighting, sound, and projections hang, focus, and cueing in consultation with Technical Director.
  • Make orders of lighting, sound, and projections equipment (rental gear, expendables, special equipment, etc…)
  • Manage electrics/ projections budget
  • Supervise hanging of all lights and lighting equipment
  • Supervise focus
  • Attend all services with Lighting Designer
  • Call follow spot cues as necessary
  • Attend all performances
  • Maintain all TAO lighting, sound, and projections equipment (owned, rented, or borrowed)
  • Maintain all communication equipment (clear-com headsets, two-way radios, etc…)
  • Supervise audio/visual technician in venue
  • Advise/provide technical support as needed with respect to lighting at special events or functions
  • Other duties, as assigned

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES - Production Coordinator

  • Reconcile and track all expenses incurred by the Production Department and report to the Finance Office as needed
  • Maintain all files for the Production Department, including, but not limited to receipts, expenses, and contracts
  • Assist the Director of Production in the maintenance and creation of all scenery, props and costume rental files for use on the website and other methods of distribution and presentation
  • Assist the Director of Production with the execution and payment processing for Production Department contracts, including but not limited to designers and scenery rentals
  • Assist the Director of Production in adhering to USA guidelines for all Union designers as needed
  • Assist the Director of Production in the coordination and execution of new hire paperwork for Production personnel
  • Assist the Director of Production in Production Department hourly payroll processing
  • Other duties, as assigned

COMPETENCIES

  • Excellent written and oral communication and problem-solving skills
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple projects simultaneously and efficiently
  • Excellent computer skills and aptitude, especially using the Microsoft Office Suite, as well as the ability to quickly learn new software programs.
  • Proficient digital drafting
  • Knowledge or strong interest in opera preferred
  • Ability to work collaboratively within production team and with multiple departments

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Theatre or related field
  • At least 4 years work experience in theatrical production with a demonstrated track record of increased responsibility
  • Ability to sit at a desk for up to and over eight hours per day
  • Ability to communicate using a phone and headset
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds
  • Have valid driver’s license
  • Must perform the functions of the position in a safe manner
  • Position requires evening and weekend obligations during the opera season
