The Jazz Club of Sarasota, one of the largest and most active jazz clubs in the United States, is dedicated to preserving and promoting jazz, America’s original musical art form. Founded in 1980 by the late Hal Davis, the former publicist for Benny Goodman, the Jazz Club has approximately 600 members and is growing. The Club presents over 50 events throughout the year, including the Annual Sarasota Jazz Festival, for over 35 years, which is one of the major US jazz festivals.
Every year, the Jazz Club of Sarasota grants scholarships to high school and college students who are serious about continuing their jazz education.
Over the course of 30-plus years, the Jazz Club of Sarasota has granted hundreds of thousands of dollars to aspiring young jazz musicians in middle school, high school and college. Donations to the Jazz Club Scholarship Fund make this possible. We thank all who have contributed.
The JazzClub presents concerts and events at various locations throughout the area. Some of the events presented include the Jazz at Two concert series which begins in mid October and continues on most Fridays to mid April. Other events presented and promoted by the Club include an Evening Concert Series with performances by national and international jazz artists and the Joy of Jazz concerts, which is a Free outdoor concert series in downtown Venice.
The annual Sarasota Jazz Festival is a week long festival that features free concerts in the park, the downtown Sarasota Jazz Trolley Night, evening concerts and other special events. The festival showcases many of the finest jazz artists on the Gulfcoast as well as national and international performers.
In addition, the Club partners with other organizations, such as, Arts Center Sarasota, the Westcoast Black Theatre Troupe and the Baltimore Orioles to present programs that benefit Arts and Education.
