The Department of Music at Florida Atlantic University is an accredited institutional member of NASM (National Association of Schools of Music). 

The Department of Music offers a comprehensive breadth of academic and performance training designed to prepare students for advanced study and successful careers in music, offering Bachelor of Music degrees with concentrations in Performance (Instrumental, Vocal, Piano or Guitar) or Commercial Music (Commercial Music Composition, Music Technology or Music Business); Bachelor of Arts in Music; Bachelor of Music Education; an Honors program in music, and a minor in Commercial Music.   

At the graduate level, the department offers a Master of Music degree, including concentrations in Commercial Music or Performance (Vocal, Instrumental, Piano, Guitar, Composition, or Wind or Choral Conducting). The Department also offers a Master of Science in Music Business Administration in cooperation with the College of Business.   

Faculty members in the Department of Music are active regionally, nationally, and internationally as solo and collaborative performers, conductors, recording artists, scholars, composers, educators, lecturers, adjudicators and mentors. Our faculty work closely with students to help them build a versatile set of skills that will ensure success in their chosen area of the music profession.   

The Department of Music provides extensive performance and teacher education experiences through its comprehensive classroom curriculum in music theory, history and literature; culturally diverse perspectives provided by courses in American popular music, jazz and rock music; applied studio instruction in piano, brass, woodwind, percussion, guitar, string and vocal areas; and performance experiences in a wide variety of large and small ensemble settings. The Department’s Commercial Music Program offers practical music industry training through its Commercial Music Composition, Music Technology and Music Business concentrations. FAU’s Hoot/Wisdom Records L.L.C. label affords students hands-on experience in its state-of-the-art studios.   

The Department of Music contributes to the artistic life at Florida Atlantic University and our surrounding community through our annual concert series, music festivals, clinics, workshops and performance ensembles. The Marching Owls and pep band represent the Department at a wide variety of athletic, University and community events. Annual summer music camps for pre-college students make the university environment accessible to young musicians and their families.   

All students seeking admission to the Department of Music must complete a performance audition. Scholarships are awarded annually by the Department of Music through the audition process. These performance/academic awards vary in amounts and carry their own retention requirements.
